Heading To The Beach With Your Umbrella?

Beach Umbrellas vs Sunscreen (which works better?) Though it may seem to make sense that shade provides adequate sun protection, you might want to rethink that.

A new study shows that skin is exposed to reflected and indirect UV rays even when you're sitting under a beach umbrella. Researchers concluded that there is insufficient clinical evidence that a beach umbrella alone can provide adequate sun protection. The study was conducted in Lake Lewisville, TX among 81 participants with fair skin. One group used only a beach umbrella and the other group used SPF 100 sunscreen.

During 3.5 hours of sun exposure, 78% of participants under shade from a beach umbrella developed a sunburn versus 25% of participants using sunscreen. Just in case you think that sunscreen always does the trick, the authors concluded that neither shade nor sunscreen alone completely prevented sunburn.

Additional sun protection measures such as wearing hats, long sleeve shirts and pants as well as limiting outdoor exposure may be needed to assure that you don't risk a sunburn. The authors also concluded that extra attention should be paid to protecting the face because people tend to apply less sunscreen as opposed to other parts of the body.

KenetMD Skincare has specially formulated two products to insure that when it comes to your face your well protected. En Garde Moisture SPF 30, a lightweight formulation that is oil-free, paraben-free and enriched with Vitamin C & Perfect Shade SPF 30, A multi-tasking tinted moisturizer that goes to work instantly to cover and protect.

And we can't say this enough-- important to practice monthly head-to-toe examinations of your skin, so that you can find any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous. Skin cancers found and removed early are almost always curable.
